Setup
Setup Guides
Goal: install PCSX2, add BIOS you dumped yourself, set up controllers and graphics, then boot one game successfully—before touching per-game hacks. Follow the checklist below in order; adjust paths for your OS.
First-time path
- Install PCSX2 (see Download) and note the install path.
- BIOS — add files you legally dumped from hardware you own; verify regions match what you intend to run.
- Controllers — detect pads, map buttons, and save a default profile; add per-game profiles later if needed.
- Graphics — pick a renderer (Vulkan/OpenGL), set a sane internal resolution, and enable hardware-friendly options before chasing hacks.
- Storage — create virtual memory cards; decide where ISOs and save data live.
- Test — launch one known-good title, confirm full boot, then read compatibility notes for that game.
After it works
Document your PCSX2 version, GPU driver, and any per-game settings you change. That log saves time when you update drivers or the emulator. For problems, jump to Troubleshooting with those details ready.
